The overseas property, that is. I give my conveyancer 0 stars and I also give the old building management 0 stars, for both holding money of mine far too long. The conveyancer still owes me £250 for overcharging on fees. 😒
But it's sold. Praise be. I fixed the car window myself (I'll pay $150 for a used window and I'll DIY, not paying a glass company $850 thank you) and then I made a decision. Little X has been diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality. There's no way to know what her care needs will be, or whether I will realistically ever work again. So this money is my only shot to escape renting before retirement age.
There's still nothing for sale within 15h drive that's in budget. But I might win a distressed rural auction. Which, I discovered, don't always show up in the sold properties sales figures, so trying to judge the amount I'd need is very difficult.
Anyway, I sold the little car, bought a van, and went on a very, very long road trip to see three houses in a row in Central Queensland. 🏘️
Please cross your fingers for next week. I've been running around gathering coins from down the sofa, and now, touch wood, have enough to maybe get a bid in. They're up for for auction because of a failure to pay the council rates for several years (tax). The owner seems to be overseas, is 80 years old, and there's good odds he has passed away. All three houses are unoccupied. Bizarrely, they're not even advertised on any real estate site, or on the council site or Facebook page, only on the website of the auctioneer 😲 so I'm hoping that means not many bidders.
I only want one! 🤞 🏡
